My love for Wallisian songs

I'm feeling a little better now. My muscle aches are gone, or at least they no longer feel like I can straight up fucking feel my femurs. I stayed in bed until 1pm, ate a little, and then went for a walk with my mom and my cats.

Didn't feel too bad honestly. The outside light didn't feel as aggressive and I noticed a while in that I hadn't had a headache in a hot minute, and that, also, I didn't have a racing heart like last night.

I did have some tightness in the sinus, or a slight ache every now and then, but nothing comparable to yesterday when the lower parts of my occiput and the junction with the neck were achey as shit to the point it felt my head would explode.

Temperature has stabilized too. From 37.5 this morning to 37.2... 37.1... and now back to 37.2 a couple of hours ago. I don't feel nearly as bad as I did. Had some chills during the afternoon but oddly enough I had a normal temp and they didn't feel like the ominous ones of yesterday that straight up had me going "damn, those chills just feel wrong".

Appears my immune system hardly gets the big guns out, but when it does, it sends the intruder ad patres et fili et spiritus sancti, amen in just a few hours to a day. The bug I caught probably was a nastier one than what it's used to dealing with...

Downside? My fucking throat and the slight cough I have. Good God the damn thing is on fire. Appears the worst is over, I doubt I'm going to spike again this night, but it's still annoying as shit.

Anyway. The title says it all. I do have a growing fondness for Wallisian songs, and I just understood something about them.

There is Pea tuku ai I shared a while ago. The song I consider to be my farewell to the world.

But there is this one I listened to and I absolutely love...

...and if we believe the AI translation, since I don't speak a word of this language...

Whether it is a single day, just one day, or a few brief minutes…
Where you can hear my voice, now so sad and plaintive
Grieving the world, grieving this fragile life passing by so quickly
Our separation is painful, and nothing could prevent it
Sending you a kiss…

Yet I had made space for you
My heart waited patiently for you to become…
Your life, and even a little bit more…
A lifetime spent cherishing you…

I do not accept it—where are you disappearing off to?
Leaving me to stay all alone
I cannot accept this, because you chose me
Through joy as well as hardship
How can you stand there and look at me
Making all these struggles

In my life, when you know so well
How frail and weak my body is?

Please come back to me...

(Refrain)

I had made space for you
My heart waited patiently for you to become…
Your life, and even a little bit more…
A lifetime spent cherishing you…

cherishing you...

you notice how this is not about "this relationship over, I will move on and forget you", or "move on".

Literally nobody tells you to "move on". It's never "I should move onto someone else", "I have to protect my peace", "I have to accept this is over and move on".

Never any injunction to "moving on".

Literally every Wallisian song I've found had this quality of "you're gone, but I'm keeping you dear in my heart because I love you".

This corner of the Pacific is not one I know very well, but...

...the way they love.

Tahiti is more Westernized. Though obviously, it has retained its culture, but Wallis and Futuna are much closer to Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa.

Oh wait also speaking of Wallis, that Vanuatuan girl I have mentioned but haven't named yet may actually be Wallisian. Or perhaps Futunan, or a mix of 986-Vanuatu. I actually typed what appears to be a last name (that I thought was a nickname), and found an obituary of a Wallisian granny, and a couple profiles of... Wallisians.

I didn't expect Wallis out of all territories to bring me a handful but here we go I guess?

Thought I was only related to the French Polynesian part of the Pacific... right, looks like not.

That name sounds unfortunately silly in French though, part of it sounds like a car brand and the other, well... sounds like a slang term either for "idiot" if used as an adjective, or "cannabis resin" as a noun. Not making this shit up. It's that funny.

If she turns out to have the brain of Pegasus that would just be the icing on the cake.

...But damn there is someone else I have to name, that old guard member who I can't yet find a name for, and it's kind of annoying me. I could name Kohana, but not her?? When she's such a nice lady?

I could name Gina, Despina, Theia and co., but not her?

Gee...
