Stargazing

What a massive surprise. M-a-s-s-i-v-e. Who, and I mean, who, would've even thought that Hi'iaka would be stargazing or write something about it? Lol.

I think I'm going to invest in binoculars soon. A telescope would be too heavy and I need all my stuff to fit into my car, so.. I'm not certain I could actually get a proper one. My brother has one and likes to stargaze, but he's got his own flat, too. I remember that thing from when I was much, much younger. Might've been eight or nine when he got it. He was in his late teens. I even remember we used it to spy on neighbours... and look through the windows of the factory in front of his bio father's flat. Fun times.

Besides imagine carrying it from my room to the outside of my building and setting it up. Then spending a few minutes stargazing and putting it back because light pollution or just because I didn't see anything interesting.

No, binoculars are better. More practical. I can carry them in my bag.

I had this idea after, while listening to music, I kinda leaned back on my chair. My curtain is open and the sky is currently pitch black. I'm waiting for the temperature to drop enough to open my window so some air can get in before I sleep.

Then I saw a dot in the sky. A star.

Mmmh, which one is it? I thought.

I opened Stellarium. Given how high I was looking, it was likely Arcturus. Perhaps Spica. But it seems too white to me to be it. Alphecca of Corona Borealis? I'm not sure. I've downloaded the app on my phone, it will probably be more accurate than the laptop location (that is turned off anyway).

I wonder if I'll get a chance to introduce Hopoe to stargazing. I don't know if she's the kind to look up to the stars... but she seems to have a thing for the moon. One of her actual names (she's got two) is tied to it. We both love it, it seems.

Me, I've always loved the moon. I wonder if it's because mine is in domicile. Yes, it's in Cancer. That's something you can know about me: I have a Cancer moon.

Might explain a lot of things. She's harshly aspected by four of my other planets (though with a nice trine to the Sun) and in the 10th house, so very exposed... but since she sits in her own home, she's probably way more powerful than she could be if, say, she was placed in Capricorn/Aquarius. Turbulent, swept by the tides, but she knows the sea well and knows how to deal with said tides.

In fact, when I was very little and watched Bear in the Big Blue House... my favourite part was the ending, when Luna was there and sung the goodbye song alongside Bear. I would literally get mad if I couldn't see her lol. I was what, two or three years old? But already, the Moon was here with me...

But yeah. If I can one day, I would want to go out with Hopoe at night. Perhaps outside her apartment, or just walking. I have to get back to the quarters before 11pm if I want to enter (otherwise it's impossible til 6am), but if say, I'm sleeping over at her place or something, or we happen to be going somewhere together and spending the night, I'd want to invite her outside. Probably on a summer night as it's warm.

I'd point at the sky, using either a paper map or Stellarium, and show her the different constellations. Tell her about them. Perhaps she'd look at me perplexedly, or maybe it could interest her.

And perhaps I'd hand her the binoculars so she can watch too.

Oh, if only we could get lost in the stars together. I wonder if I'm crazy to imagine that. But if I could make up a new constellation, I'd write her into the stars and have it made official.

Side note... there's a celestial object called Haumea with a moon that... is named Hi'iaka. ;) Too bad the other moon is named Namaka and not Hopoe...

And before I got my pearl, there was a phrase I made trying to write a poem. I didn't know yet what it would foreshadow, but... now I get it.

"The moon is a pearl."

Oh, yes, the moon is a pearl.

A black pearl for the new moon. A white pearl for the full moon.

We were also born around those. I'm not talking out of my ass. Waning gibbous for me (so right after the actual full moon), and new moon for her, just starting to make a crescent.

Complementarity.

Anyway, g'night.
