Stitch and his lava lamp

I went out shopping, but on the way, I had a sudden surge of inspiration. For some reason or another, I wanted to have a Stitch figure on my desk at work, especially in the new office where I won't have a damn cupboard in front of me.

For very obvious reasons, I was a Lilo & Stitch fan as a kid. Even had a big Stitch plushie that I took on a plane. It was something like 60cm high, and at the time I must've been six, so it still looked enormous next to me. Should also mention that my legend is mentioned in one of the sequels ;) but obviously, it's the variant where she falls in love with Lo'hiau (not quite mentioning he was originally Pele's lover, not Hi'iaka's... and that she had instructed her precisely not to fall for him, and literally destroyed her whole world and lover because she thought her sister had betrayed her). I don't think there will ever be one on this blog, or I will be very surprised. Unless I get a very close male friend and the name fits him.

But despite that, literally hated the whole renewed Stitch hype. I didn't watch the remake, I honestly think the animated movie is and will always be the best, and all of a sudden I want one. I remembered then that Hopoe has a Lilo funkpop on her desk. While I would be surprised to have her visit... I didn't know why, I just felt I wanted to have Stitch.

But not as a funkopop, because I kind of hate them. They look cheap, they're overhyped and completely overpriced for what they actually are. Not that blind box toys are any better (Labubu anyone? Though honestly I wouldn't mind a simple one, they're cute), but... yeah. I don't like funkopops, so I wasn't going to get one anyway. Nah, let me have your regular old Stitch figure instead. Don't need more.

Come to think of it, Stitch... well, you know what purpose he serves in the story of the original movie. And what the verb "to stitch" means. It's a shot in the dark, but... perhaps my subconscious is telling me something, and it's not wishful thinking. It's fairly uncharacteristic for me to get into a popular thing when it's popular... so...

(No because obviously there's always some nerd who goes "ackshually it's your brain expressing your wish to-" - now listen up, I don't need to channel my subconscious to know I want to reconcile with the woman I love so we can actually pick back up and express what's between us, so please do me two favours: first, shut the fuck up, and second, go shove your armchair psychoanalysis up your ass.)

So I actually drive to the other store, and I go to the toys store nearby. I'm thinking about which Stitch I'd like: would love a dancing Stitch, or one that plays the guitar, but the only one available that is in hula attire is either a blind win or part of a two-figure set.

Please. I want ONE Stitch, not fifty.

The guitarist one is not from a blind box, but just not available.

So I took another blind box, which has nice-looking Stitches. There was one of the figures that I really liked and kind of hoped to get: the one that is sitting in bed looking at a lava lamp.

And guess what? I opened the box... and found out I got exactly the one I wanted ;)

Strange how things work sometimes...
